  • As a child, she was reclusive and self-conscious.
  • Dorothy Tutin made her first film appearance by playing the role of Cecily Cardew in the 1952 comedy-drama film The Importance of Being Earnest, a film adaptation of the 1895 play by Oscar Wilde. She co-starred in the film along with Michael Redgrave, Michael Denison, Edith Evans, Joan Greenwood, Margaret Rutherford, and Miles Malleson. Also, this performance got Dorothy nominated for a BAFTA Film Award in the “Most Promising Newcomer to Film” category in 1953.
  • In 1972, she portrayed the character of Sophie Brzeska (a Polish writer and artistic muse most noted for being the companion of the artist Henri Gaudier-Brzeska) in the biographical drama film Savage Messiah. This role earned her a BAFTA Film Award nomination for “Best Actress” in 1973.
  • Dorothy Tutin was cast as Natalya Petrovna in A Month in the Country for the 1974 season at the Chichester Festival Theatre and this performance won her the Evening Standard Award for “Best Actress” and an Olivier Award for “Best Actress in a Revival”.
