Red Bull clarify relationship between Checo Perez and Max Verstappen

For more than a year, the Red Bull team has had to come out after almost every race to talk about the relationship between its two drivers, Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez, with the media constantly looking for something to try to create an uncomfortable situation within the Austrian team.

After last Saturday's sprint race in Austria, Red Bull Racing director Christian Horner came out to talk to the specialized press to clarify that Verstappen and Perez "have an open and honest relationship".

During the race there was a dangerous rapprochement between the two drivers, and in his interview with Sky Sports, Horner clarified: "Checo said he didn't see it, and Max believes him. They discussed it in our team meeting and they both understand the situation."

A typical Sunday for Red Bull

During the race Verstappen won once again, including the fastest lap, while the Mexican driver made a spectacular comeback from 15th place to get onto the podium in third place.

"Sergio's qualifying on Friday was a frustrating part, but it was fantastic to see his comeback today with a good pace, he achieved a great result at the end," explained Horner.

The fastest lap of the race for Verstappen earned him an extra point towards his quest for a third Formula 1 championship, and despite the considerable lead that was eaten up ahead of the finish, Horner was left pleased.

"We felt this small risk was worth it for the point. Max can follow what's happening on track as well as we can and he's been asking us about that tire change for a while," Horner explained. "Our mechanics have been in such good shape lately that overall we didn't take too many risks."
